To pitch the top of the ninth, Craig Kimbrel entered the game. He threw a pitch that hit Jake McCarthy. The call was disputed by the Dodgers, but it stood. McCarthy seconded. He was tagged after coming off the bag on his slide, according to the replay. Dave Roberts could only ask for a replay because he had already used his challenge. McCarthy was called out after the umpires granted it. Then Christian Walker hit a home run. Carson Kelly made a base on balls. Josh Rojas took a step. Sergio Alcantara was unsuccessful.

Joe Mantiply, a lefty, will take Moronta’s spot. Everyone was safe after Max Muncy hit a lazy roller to third. There is one out and a tied score. Justin Turner is on base. On three pitches, he is thrown out. To win the game, Mookie Betts singled to left on a full-count pitch while pinch-hitting for Joey Gallo.

The fourth inning began with Trea Turner striking out and Freddie Freeman grounding out before Will Smith hit a sinking liner to left. The ball rolled all the way to the fence after Stone Garrett attempted to make a diving catch but failed. Mookie Betts’ walk-off. Smith was close to a triple when it was eventually recovered. After after, Max Muncy tied the game with a double to the right. To close the inning, Justin Turner popped to second.

Error helps Diamondbacks take 1-0 lead after three

In the top of the third, the Diamondbacks take the lead. Right-handed single by Sergio Alcantara. Gavin Lux committed an error by throwing away a grounder that Daulton Varsho hit, putting runners on second and third. Geraldo Perdomo grounded to second, but for some reason the runners held. Walking is Ketel Marte. Alcantara was brought home by a sacrifice fly from Stone Garrett to centre. Varsho was pushed to third after Emmanuel Rivera grounded to him.

In the bottom of the third, Gallen retired the side.

At Dodger Stadium on Thursday, the first inning was brief (jinx!) as both teams retired in order. Zac Gallen struck out one for the Diamondbacks and Julio Uras struck out two for the Dodgers.
