Jake Gyllenhaal-Starring ‘Road House’ Reboot Gets Green Light at Prime Video

Jake Gyllenhaal, who has received Oscar and Tony nominations, will play the lead role in “Road House,” a remake of the Patrick Swayze-starring classic film for Amazon Prime Video.

The new film, which will be directed by Doug Liman, was written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry. Joel Silver is back on board to produce the reinvention for his firm Silver Pictures after producing the original movie for MGM in 1989. Executive producers are Aaron Auch, JJ Hook, and Alison Winter.

In November 2021, rumours that Gyllenhaal and Liman were considering the project surfaced. The production’s upcoming launch was officially confirmed by Prime Video on Tuesday.

We hit a home run with ‘Road House. Not only is it a homage to the original’s admirers, but it’s also a large, entertaining film for a wide audience, according to Amazon Studios chief Jennifer Salke. “We are delighted to work with Joel, Doug, and this fantastic cast, lead by Jake Gyllenhaal, and for them to join together to remake the classic MGM picture as an action-packed adventure for our worldwide audience,” said the production company.

In a statement, Doug Liman said, “I’m excited to put my own touch on the renowned ‘Road House’ tradition. And I’m eager to present to audiences what Jake and I will bring to this legendary part.

Swayze portrayed James Dalton, a zen bouncer hired to calm down a boisterous Missouri pub, in the 1989 cult hit. Ben Gazzara, the crooked tycoon in charge of the small village, is swiftly confronted by Dalton. Although it only made $30 million at the box office on a projected $15 million budget, the movie has since gained a cult following and is one of Swayze’s most adored parts among fans of the late actors.

The original “Road House” holds a special place in Silver’s heart, and he is thrilled to provide this newly envisioned version to viewers all over the world. “Doug and I are prepared to give this one everything we’ve got because we’ve both created some huge, raucous action movies.”

Gyllenhaal plays a former UFC fighter who accepts a job as a bouncer at a seedy roadhouse in the Florida Keys but “quickly realises that not everything is what it seems in this tropical paradise,” according to the studio.

With a cast that also includes Billy Magnussen from “No Time to Die,” Daniela Melchior from “The Suicide Squad,” Gbemisola Ikumelo from “A League of Their Own,” Lukas Gage from “The White Lotus,” Hannah Love Lanier from “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” Travis Van Winkle from “You,” B.K. Cannon from “Why Women Kill,” Arturo Castro from “Broad City,” Dominique Columbus from “Ray Donovan,” and Beau Kn “Road House” will be available for streaming on Prime Video in more than 240 nations and territories when it debuts.

WME represents Gyllenhaal, CAA represents Liman, while Paradigm and Curtis Brown Group are in charge of Ikumelo’s representation.
